WWI US M1917 Helmet Bears Hand Painted Aircraft Propeller To Crown as Well as An Intricate and Beautifully Worked Camouflage Pattern Across The Entire Exterior. Pattern lightens and darkens in varying earth tones of browns, yellows and greens with swirls, diamond and triangle patterns to crown serving as a backdrop for the aircraft propeller. Paint shows only very minor age and wear with a few small scattered chips missing, but remains overall approximately 98% in tact. Liner shows minor signs of age, wear and use with no readily apparent blemishes to the black oil cloth, felt crown pad or cotton adjuster webbing and string. Leather liner rim shows some minor damage to a few of the loops that hold the rubber “bumpers” in place. Chinstrap shows age and wear with a few spots of staining, but remains solid and is not fragile. Interior portion of the chinstrap shows handwritten markings near the crown rivet. Lot numbers remain visible to the underside of the rim. This is truly an outstanding helmet and we honestly do not think that the pictures do it justice. This is definitely one that we thought long and hard about keeping, but it is a real treat to be able to offer such an advanced collector grade piece to our wonderful customers!
