Description
1955 US AIR FORCE 603rd COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON SKULTHORPE, ENGLAND “BASE CHAMPS” LETTERMAN STYLE JACKET: SIZE 40
Very Attractive Letterman Style Jacket Remains in Overall GOOD CONDITION showing light to moderate signs of age, wear, use and long term storage. Torso and sleeves of the jacket maintain excellent dark “wine” red color with NO readily apparent soiling, streaking, staining or fading. Pockets are outlined in beige canvas and the light colored stripes to the collar, cuffs and waistband are ALSO beige / light khaki. These light colored areas do show some light soiling and there is also some soiling visible to the very large “Base Champs” patch. Cuffs, Collar and Waistband show NO Damage of any sort and maintain relatively good elasticity. Large “Base Champs” Chest Patch does show some LOOSE Stitching and has approximately 40% separated from the jacket to the viewer’s right side of the patch. Jacket is constructed of wool and does show some light, scattered mothing. Most visible is a patch of mothing to the viewer’s left chest (wearer’s right) that can be seen in the photos. The largest hole is smaller than a pencil eraser, the other two are considerably smaller than it and one spot does not penetrate the wool (see photos). There is also some light moth tracking to the “Base Champs” patch and wool lettering to the rear. While these blemishes are visible under close inspection, they are not overly apparent and in our opinion, do not detract from the piece when displayed. Jacket is reversible and the interior is constructed of faux white silk. Interior shows clearly visible age, wear and rust colored discoloration to the collar area from hanging on a metal hanger for many years. Overall, the jacket remains very solid with ALL SNAPS functioning perfectly and no splits or separations to any of the seams. Jacket displays very well and came to us straight from the veteran’s estate in Pensacola, Florida.
