AUSTRIAN STEYR MANNLICHER M1886: SCARCE UNALTERED, NON IMPORT EXAMPLE CHAMBERED IN ORIGINAL 11x58R – NO LICENSE NEEDED!

NOTE: This rifle was manufactured between 1886 & 1888, therefore it is classified as an “Antique” by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms and NO license of any sort is required to purchase it. This weapon can ship directly to you!

This Straight Pull Bolt Action Rifle Remains a SCARCE Example of An Austrian Military Issue Mannlicher Model 1886 Manufactured By Steyr Between 1886 and 1888. We use the term “SCARCE” for this example because it was Manufactured by Steyr in Austria for use by the Austrian Military, meaning it was NOT manufactured for export AND this particular rifle remains chambered in the ORIGINAL 11x58R Caliber. It has NOT been altered and remains in its completely original configuration. It also looks considerably BETTER in person than in the photos! These rifles were only manufactured for TWO years as they were one of the last black powder cartridge rifles issued to a standing army and by the time they went into production, they were already obsolete. Because of this, the vast majority of them were imported to other countries after 1888, had their markings changed and/or added to and were rechambered in the more modern 8mm caliber. This M1886 Remains in Overall FAIR CONDITION Showing Clearly Visible Signs of Age, Wear, Use, Neglect and Long Term Storage in Less Than Favorable Conditions. The metal shows light to moderate scattered pitting, age darkening, freckling and discoloration. NO active rust is visible and all metal remains very solid. While we have certainly not attempted to fire this rifle, it appears in every way to function properly. The bolt remains in GOOD Condition and cycles surprisingly smooth, charges and the firing pin “snaps” quite loudly when the trigger is pulled. All magazine springs and internal workings function properly and the trigger functions smoothly as well. Bore shows visible age and fouling, but the lands and grooves of the rifling remain clearly visible. Bore may clean up rather well with a jag run through it. Wood shows age, wear and use as well as darkening and scattered “bump and bruises.” There are visible cracks scattered about but nothing that detracts when the weapon is displayed. Unaltered, non import examples of the M1886 are few and far between, rather difficult to find and command a considerable price regardless of condition. While this by no means a pristine piece, it is a scarce example and we are offering it at a price that will allow collectors of various levels the chance to add one to their collection.
