This ammunition makes for a great addition to any WWII German Firearms, “Special” Troops or Police Display. The M95 Steyr Straight Pull Bolt Action Carbine and “Short Rifle” were issued to “Special Troops” such as Police, Engineers and Communications Specialists. They were originally designed by Mannlicher in the early 1890s and saw considerable use through WWI. In the 1930s, variants of the Model 1895 were rechambered for the more modern 8x56R round and many infantry rifles were “cut down,” made into carbines and issued en masse to German occupation troops as well as “home guard” units. Repurposing of the original infantry rifles allowed this unique weapon play an even greater role in firearms history.
